PERDOMO, Edward

Her charm and sweetness define her as a dreamer and competent. Her persistence led her to compete for the Miss Universe pageant, and although she did not win she captured the worlds attention. Digene Zimmerman is arubian and before the finalists were selected, she knew she was not going to beat her opponents. She thought it more important to represent the island in the highest way.
“I went because I wanted to show the world that we can also make it, and that my country also has beautiful women. Aruba is a small island, but one where great things can be done». The contest was a great learning experience. «The process was very hard; I slept only a few hours, but I learned self-discipline . I wanted people to understand that the crown is not everything; for me, being Miss, means much more. It means setting a good example for my community.»
Her humility and generosity are well known by the people in need. Since she was 12, she volunteers for charities for children with cancer and limited resources. She is jovial, spontaneous, and a fighter. She is genuine and despite her gaze on runways, Digene has also worked on her education. She speaks four languages: English, Papiamento, Dutch and Spanish.
Since she came back to the island, she focused on finishing her degree in Tax Law, which she intends to pursue in another country alongside her modeling career. «I want to be a career person, to grow along with the people around me. Thank God I have had the opportunity to be able to choose and go down the right path.»
Obstacles don’t cloud her dreams. At 21, she asserts that her life is just beginning and that the opportunities that have come along her way, have expanded. She is the youngest at home and pampered by her two brothers. The love of her family comforts her. “You can have support from everyone, but if you do not have the support of your family, you have nothing. I enjoy hanging out with them. We are a very close.”
Her mother is Arubian and her father was born in Curacao, so ever since she was a child she traveled with her dolls, between the two islands. She has no preference between the two. “Each has its own charm; in Curacao people are more traditional and in Aruba people are open-minded.” She takes the best from each.
She is the only darker skinned one in her family. Her caramel skin tone makes her authentic in one of the Caribbean pearls. “I don’t go much to the beach in order to keep my skin color. I take good care of it because it has opened doors for me in modeling. There are not many people here with my same skin tone.”
Her beautiful figure steals looks at runway shows, as well as creating sighs when walking by. Digene dreams about being a singer, it’s her hidden passion. She stands up for her ambition. “People have to believe in themselves, no matter if this means going against the flow. At the end, these are your dreams. You have to work for them, otherwise you will end up working for someone else’s dream”.

PERDOMO, Edward

Digene Zimmerman, belleza universal
